PEPSI HEAD!

KYLIE MINOGUE has signed up to be the new face of PEPSI in AUSTRALIA - even though she previously endorsed COCA-COLA in her native country during the '80s.

As Minogue rose to fame following her departure from the cult daytime Australian soap 'Neighbours', she appeared in a series of commercials for Pepsi's arch rival. However, she has now signed an undisclosed fee to advertise Pepsi regardless.

Speaking about her past, a spokesperson for Pepsi told advertising weekly B&T: "We're not worried about the fact that she appeared in the Coke commercials, it doesn't worry us at all. I'm sure there are many artists that we have been associated with that have been involved with rivals and competing products."

The campaign is expected to commence in early 2001 in Australia. Spokespersons for both Pepsi and Kylie in the UK could not confirm if the commercials will be used here. While not denying the commercial may be shown elsewhere, he said: "It's early days and we can't say at the moment. The advert was only shot two weekends ago."

Pepsi regularly use high profile musicians to endorse their product. Stars who have endorsed the drink include Michael Jackson, the Spice Girls and, more recently, Robbie Williams.

Kylie Minogue is confirmed to play her first UK tour in eight years in March 2001. A number of extra dates were added to the tour yesterday in Glasgow, Manchester and London. The full UK tour now reads:

Glasgow Armadillo (March 3-4)
Manchester Apollo (8-9)
Brighton Centre (13)
Cardiff International Arena (14)
Bournemouth International Centre (15)
London Hammersmith Apollo (17-18)
